The ICC released the ICC ODI Rankings yesterday, and India has dominated in both the batsman and bowlers categories. A total of 8 players are in the top 10 across all categories. India retains the top spot as the number 1 team in the ODI rankings. India has won all 8 matches they have played in the World Cup so far.
ICC ODI Rankings Batsman
Shubman Gill has climbed to the number one spot in the ODI batsman rankings, replacing Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam. Babar Azam had held the number one position in ODIs for more than 2 years. Shubman Gill’s performance in this World Cup played a pivotal role in securing his position at the top of the ladder.
Shubman Gill is only the fourth player to achieve this feat of being the number one batsman in the ICC ODI rankings from India. The other Indian batsmen who have achieved this top ranking are Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli moved up 3 spots to secure the 4th position. Virat Kohli scored a whopping 523 runs in 8 matches, making him the second-highest run scorer in this World Cup, just behind Q De Kock of South Africa. Rohit Sharma retains his 6th position in the rankings.
Babar Azam dropped 1 position to the 2nd spot, and Q De Kock is in the 3rd spot. Q De Kock is the highest run scorer in this World Cup so far with 550 runs, thanks to 4 centuries. Australia’s David Warner holds the 5th position in the ICC ODI rankings.
ICC ODI Rankings Bowlers
India’s Mohammed Siraj claimed the number one spot in the ICC ODI rankings for bowlers, moving up 2 spots to secure this prestigious position. In addition to Mohammed Siraj, three more Indian bowlers are in the top 10 rankings. Kuldeep Yadav is in 4th place, having climbed 4 spots from the earlier rankings.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have stormed into the top 10 rankings due to their exceptional performances in the 2023 World Cup. Jasprit Bumrah secured the 8th spot, and Mohammed Shami is positioned at 10th place in the rankings. In the 2023 World Cup, Mohammed Shami claimed 16 wickets in 4 matches, while Jasprit Bumrah took 15 wickets in 8 matches so far.
Keshav Maharaj of South Africa holds the 2nd position, and Adam Zampa of Australia is in 3rd place in the rankings. Adam Zampa has taken 20 wickets in 8 matches in this World Cup. Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi is ranked 5th.
ICC ODI Rankings All-Rounders
Shakib Al Hasan was a hot topic last week due to the controversial “timed out” dismissal of Angelo Mathews. However, now there is good news for him as he has retained the number 1 spot in the ICC ODI all-rounder rankings. Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan of Afghanistan have taken the 2nd and 4th spots, respectively. Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe is in the 3rd spot, and Assad Vala of PNG is in 5th place in the ICC all-rounder rankings.
Ravindra Jadeja of India is the only player in the top 10 of the All-rounder rankings. Ravindra Jadeja holds the 10th spot in the rankings.
ICC ODI Rankings For Teams
India maintains its top position in the ICC ODI team rankings with 265 rating points. Having won all eight of their matches in the 2023 World Cup, India has further solidified its standing in the ICC rankings. Their final league match is scheduled against the Netherlands on November 12th at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
England holds the second spot with 259 rating points, while New Zealand is in third place with 255 points. Despite being ranked second, the 2023 World Cup has not been a memorable one for England.
