The India vs England 4th test match commenced today at JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. England won the toss and chose to bat. Joe Root revived England’s fortunes by scoring a century against India on day one of the fourth Test match.
It was an impressive debut for Indian pacer Akash Deep as he claimed three wickets on the opening day of the Test match. He dislodged the stumps of Zak Crawley in his second over, but it was ruled a no-ball as he overstepped the crease. However, this setback didn’t deter him, as he went on to dismiss Ben Duckett, caught behind by Jurel, and Ollie Pope, leg before wicket. Later, he once again removed the bails of Zak Crawley. Akash Deep bowled with a consistent line and length, maintaining a good pace that made the English batsmen uncomfortable.
Subsequently, Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Jonny Bairstow for 38, while Ravindra Jadeja removed Ben Stokes for 3, leaving England at 112/5 during the lunch break. However, after lunch, Joe Root and Ben Foakes forged a 113-run partnership, revitalizing England. The team did not lose any wickets between lunch and tea.
Shortly after tea, Ben Foakes was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj for 47, and Tom Hartley fell for 13 to Siraj as well. By the time Hartley was dismissed, England stood at 245/7. However, Ollie Robinson displayed a strong performance alongside Joe Root, helping England conclude the day with a respectable total of 302/7. Joe Root achieved his 10th century against India and remained unbeaten with 106 runs from 226 balls.
