Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill opened the batting for India. Rohit started with a boundary but was bowled by Madushanka on the second ball. The new ball favoured the fast bowlers. Shortly after Gill’s dismissal, Virat Kohli was also dismissed for 88 runs in 94 balls, missing his century by just 12 runs, narrowly failing to equal Sachin Tendulkar’s record. Kohli was caught at covers by a well-disguised slower ball from Madushanka.

After the significant partnership between Kohli and Gill, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav were dismissed for 21 and 12 runs, respectively. However, Shreyas Iyer held one end, scoring a brilliant 82 off 56 balls, which helped Team India reach a total of 357 runs.
