The inaugural match of the TATA Women’s Premier League WPL 2024 proved to be a thrilling encounter. The clash between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals in the WPL 2024 has already etched its place as one of the finest in the league’s history.

The Women’s Premier League 2024 commenced with a spectacular opening ceremony, featuring numerous Bollywood superstars who graced the event with their performances. In response, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Amelia Kerr took 2 wickets each for Mumbai Indians, while Shabnim Ismail claimed 1 wicket.

Mumbai Indians needed to score 172 to win, and their start was shaky as opener Hayley Matthews departed for a duck. However, Yastika Bhatia and Harmanpreet Kaur steadied the innings, with Yastika scoring 57 off 45 balls and Harmanpreet contributing 55 off 34 balls. Harmanpreet Kaur’s dismissal in the 19.5 overs left Mumbai Indians needing 5 runs off the last ball. Under intense pressure, Sajeevan Sajana came to bat and, facing Alice Capsey delivered a decisive six over long-on to secure victory for Mumbai Indians. Undoubtedly, this match stands out as the best in the history of the Women’s Premier League.

For Delhi Capitals, Arundhati Reddy and Alice Capsey claimed 2 wickets each, while Marizanne Kapp and Shikha Pandey took 1 wicket each.

Harmanpreet Kaur won the Player of the Match award for her innings of 55 off 34 balls.
